The threshold sets itself when you use Learn the gun below. Only touch this slider if you want to override it.
Tap it, then fire one round within 8 seconds from where the starter will stand. That single shot sets the trigger threshold and teaches the app how fast a gunshot arrives, after which “on your marks, set” is ignored, because a voice climbs over several frames and a pistol does not. Until you do this, any loud sound over the threshold starts the race. If it ever refuses a real gun, tap Forget and you are straight back to loudness only.
After a trigger fires you must press ARM again (anti-false-trigger). For 3 s after each start the mic listens for a second shot = false-start recall, short on purpose, so a clipped hurdle or a cheer later in the race cannot recall a real one. The button above stays live for 15 s, which is how you recall late. Either way: finish phones stop and reset, the heat stays put, and you re-ARM for the restart.
